Hey team ! I’m heading out on a last minute camping/surf trip down the Baja peninsula for 10 days !! I won’t have wifi access and I got all stressed about not being able to upload new content so I’m putting this halfway edited clip to hold me over til I get back. Plenty of great content coming to the site in 2021, but I’m going to be slow for another few weeks as I take advantage of this awesome opportunity to explore more of the Baja coastline. Looking forward to sharing more about it when I get back, and of course, upload a bunch of the stuff I’ve been working on. Happy new year !
Any lack of fluency in this fundamental skill subtracts from your ability to read a wave as it approaches you. Every wave is different and constantly changing as it comes to break. Therefore all of your focus should be on the wave, not the act of turning your board. Repetition, practice and good technique is the only way.
Here’s an in depth look at how a surfer is great aside from how they ride the wave; which of course is also excellent, but without a solid fundamental foundation, the resulting surfing on the wave wouldn’t happen.
Corking is a subtle, but important skill in surfing. Used during the transition from sitting to paddling, corking is a momentary boost of momentum you can capitalize on and make paddling (especially when you start paddling) more speedy and efficient. You should reach a point of proficiency with this skill that whenever you lay down from sitting to paddle, you incorporate the corking technique so that your transition is not only fluid, but beneficial to your ultimate goal.
