Now that Coach Evan is out here on the East Coast I’ll have to be a little more thoughtful as to how we record the video aspect of our podcasts. I set up the GoPro behind us to try and get the ocean in frame along with us, but my stupid big hat really steals a lot of the frame space. The good thing about doing something poorly is that you have a lot of room to improve!
Coach Chris and Coach Evan are looking at two different waves and discussing how the press up posture improves multiple elements of your surfing, including your take-off, your ride, and more.
You might remember a lesson that was recently uploaded called, Controlling Your Take-Off. This weeks video addresses the same technique, but speaks to the form and posture you should aim to achieve when using the press up skill during your take-off (and punching through waves for that matter).
In this video, I’m talking about when to use the press up posture to punch through white water vs when to use a buoyancy pop. You can watch the Press Up video here (https://thesurfcontinuum.com/video-lessons/press-up-dynamic-position/), and the Buoyancy Pop video here (https://thesurfcontinuum.com/video-lessons/inside-strategies-popping-through/) if you haven’t already seen them or need a refresher.
Coach Chris and Coach Evan discussing the small window of time…just after you catch a wave, but before you descend completely to the trough which is seized with correct timing of when you stop paddling for the wave and begin setting your rail to go down the line.
Coach Chris and Coach Evan look over student footage and discuss why people nose dive, and some common mistakes you can correct in order to keep your nose out of the water
Coach Chris and Coach Evan take a look at the surfing of a student and discuss a few topics.
Coach Chris and Coach Evan discuss the proper white water press-up technique and difficulties, reviewing footage from the La Misión trip.
You know when you try to bust through some white water, but get sent flying backwards instead? Use a press up to not only create space between you and your board, but also to dynamically adjust your weight center through the turbulence and get your board flat ASAP. Fight to stay on your board!
