Angela’s question is in regards to some of the nuances of turtle rolling.
Coach Chris and Coach Evan discussing the small window of time…just after you catch a wave, but before you descend completely to the trough which is seized with correct timing of when you stop paddling for the wave and begin setting your rail to go down the line.
Cat hops on a early morning call with me to share the story behind a clip I came across on her Instagram page. Basically, it’s the worst drop in I’ve ever seen. Let’s take a look…
Next up in the que of pre-released episodes is this one, which ironically comes on the heels of a member’s question that recently came through of the same nature. Totally unplanned.
Coach Ev’s telling the story of one of the top 5 waves of his life?! He wouldn’t make that claim easily so you can be sure it’s gonna be a good story!
Part 1 of the Hurricane Lee recap. I’m sharing with Coach Ev some of the background on the swell. Check part 2 for some SoloShot footage of the swell.
Sarah asked about paddling technique and form…specifically, what should she be doing with her legs while she paddles ? This is an important thing to get right, because you’ll see a lot of people, even great surfers do different things with their legs (lift them in the air, peddle kick, etc.) I approach this question from an athletic perspective, and to be the most efficient and high level athlete, you want to have the best technique at the most basic things.
Any lack of fluency in this fundamental skill subtracts from your ability to read a wave as it approaches you. Every wave is different and constantly changing as it comes to break. Therefore all of your focus should be on the wave, not the act of turning your board. Repetition, practice and good technique is the only way.
The first part of this question from Maleeka is in regards to surf etiquette, specifically as the paddler making their way to the line-up. The second part is in regards to when two surfers go for the same wave.
